The First Public Tower Tour
So, back in October of 2011 the Buffalo Central Terminal opened up the tower to the public for the first time. It was during the Historical and preservation week which Buffalo was hosting.
While getting my ticket I found out that they hadn't been expecting the turn out. My words would be massive turnout because it seemed as if most of the city was there. Like myself, a lot of people had done the main tour but since the tower had been off limit for almost 20 years people were itching to get in it and they were almost sold out by the time i got there. The wait was completely worth it. While I waited for my tour I wandered about and took photos. I then hunted down the line for the people selling pirogi's and other things i can no longer remember. The pirogi was to die for so I didn't venture outside to the food trucks that were there. Loyd Tacos and 2-4 other trucks. Once the tour started I found out they did not want people to take pictures inside the tower. Since this had been the main reason I was there I was more then a little upset. Thinking back I have a theory as to why. During the tour this theory was reinforced.
To be very, very blunt the event did not feel planned. It felt like a last minuet thing. The most obvious example was that the stairs were not cleared enough. You could use them, but there was a good five inches of dirt on the sides of the narrow stairs. The floor we stopped at had a massive pile of filled garbage bags on one side.. We then had to go out a window to get to a landing/balcony to see the view. This was probably the safest part. It felt safe and you could see not just the city but a view of just how big the train station really was. Now they have a few more tours to choose from. I hope they bring back the photographers tour. |
